Kirk’s experience prompted a desire to give back to underserved communities and to create a recording studio on wheels. His nonprofit organization, The Mobile Educational Multimedia Foundation is still working on that long-term goal, while operating after-school programs for underserved teens: TechKno Camp and TechKno Academy.

The TechKno Academy after school program has attracted nationwide attention, after CNN invited the teen participants to screen their new docudrama, CHICAGOLAND, in 2014. The CNN producers conducted a “Producer’s Master Class” for the teens. WGN News produced a segment on the program:
